Dr Michael Liang

Dr. Liang is on his second HHNW trip as a critical care/pulmonary specialist. As he was about to finish his research year at University of Washington, he realized that he would like to expand his experience in medicine and was happy to have been offered the opportunity to come to Rwanda in 2013.  He gets great satisfaction from, and marvels at the gratitude shown in the faces of, the patients cared for here, even when there is an obvious language barrier.
Michael is from a medical family.  His father is a retired general surgeon in Monroeville, Pa., and Michael attended Penn State and medical school and residency at Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia, before moving west to UW for Pulmonary and Critical Care.  He now is one of 7 pulmonary specialists in his current position at Providence Everett Medical Center.
LKF (Little Known Fact) about Dr. Liang:  While his friends were busy trying to get into graduate school, he was a "master" sandwich maker at a Jewish deli in Pennsylvania, and considers his Reuben sandwich a masterpiece!
