All 16 surgeries were completed yesterday. Due to schedule changes, we have operated on 14 female patients and 2 male patients. Five patients have been educated as to their medications,self care,and follow-up and discharged. The three patients in the ICU today will move to Telemetry this afternoon. Another patient will go home today. The OR is closed. ICU closes late today. Packing has begun in all units but Tele and packed trunks will be triaged to be stored here in Rwanda, or divided among the team to bring back to Spokane. Many unused supplies will be donated to King Faisal Hospital here in Rwanda. The second wave of departures, mainly the OR team, is tomorrow, Thursday.
Tonight, the HHNW team will be honored with a farewell dinner for the team and our Rwandan medical partners. In past years, it has always been a lovely, festive affair and we are all looking forward to it.
